COURSES: Philosophy

The Healing Way 1 is the introduction to the native philosophies in terms of healing arts. This first step introduces you to self-awareness and body-mechanics. Some of the skills reviewed include nutrition, breath control, body control, environmental acclimation and situational awareness techniques. This will lead to the increase of greater cognitive understanding.

For women only. 

This is for healing and for embracing the warrior within all women. The Women's Warrior Weekend will include warrior scout skills from Mountain Scout's curriculum, plus spiritual teachings by visiting women elders (Grandmother Nancy Andry & Janet Kroboth-Weber). With a focus on the importance of building community via women's circles, you will learn ways to renew one's connection to ancestors and the Earth through story and song. We'll review women's traditions and rights of passage from different cultures, plus share hands-on activities with the four sacred elements and plants/herbs used for food, medicine and ceremony. You will be spending the weekend camping out at our site. BIOS:

Grandmother Nancy Andry is of Algonquin/French heritiage and has followed The Red Road since childhood. Seeking out elders willing to teach, her mentors were Lakota, Ojibwa and Mi'kmac, medicine elders who later adopted her. Community elders gave her permission to pour lodges since 1991, plus she facilitated Native Women's Circles in federal prison for 17 years. A Sundancer & Pipe carrier, she is acknowledged as an Elder and Grandmother in her communities in Canada, where she was given instruction to bring out certain teachings. Grandmother Nancy is a well-known storyteller, sharing legends in schools, health facilities and the powwow circuit. She was a staff member of Joined Nations of Connecticut, a Native heritage youth organization. Her talks include: Calgary, St. Croix USV, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York, opening prayers/water ceremonies at The Shift Network: Sacred America-Sacred World; Water Walk for Life; TedxNewYorkSalon: Bodies of Water; Center for Earth Ethics, plus the launch of a sacred activism alliance with the Ramapough-Lenape Nation (Split Rock Sweetwater Camp).  By directive of her Canadian Elders, her ongoing mission is training others in The Water Song Ceremony (see video: The Water Song Project, withinusproductions.com). She also was owner/operator of an equestrian business until retirement and now incorporates Horse Medicine in one of her many lectures about Native culture.

Janet Kroboth-Weber is an artist, musician, activist and cross-cultural minister, ordained by The Center for Sacred Studies (Guerneville, CA), with a focus on global indigenous traditions. She has assisted elders for over twenty years with teaching circles and ceremony, including an international Indigenous Elders council and federal prision ministry. As a professional graphic designer (BFA Parsons/New School), her career included marketing and publishing, plus working closely with Earth scientists at Columbia University's Lamont Geological Observatory. Teaching positions include St. Thomas Aquinas College and State University of New York/FIT. Wilderness experience, primitive skills study and broad travels influence her work with environmental groups and interfaith perspectives for the Earth. She has coordinated ceremonial gatherings for land and water and promotes community-building through sacred activism for indigenous rights, social justice and water protection.
