Fire making is one of the most profound skills to know due to the many uses of this great element. Fire will cook your food, purify your water, keep you warm, give you light, and keep you company. In this primitive fire class taught by Shane Hobel, students will create a bow drill kit and learn the principals of ‘fire by friction’ learn other methods along with proper fire structures and uses and later move on to other techniques such as fire from air or ice. The reverence and importance of the associated ceremony will be taught. Students will build a fire structure and use their own constructed bow-drill kit.

With a focus on survival, these sessions stress the importance of efficient movement to avoid exhaustion and injury. This includes learning how to carve correctly, safety and first aid considerations, and the consequences of not following simple precautions in a survival situation.
